Machina

Review by Amanda Erickson, MML.com

Now Playing: Trust

Former Evanescence members John LeCompt and Rocky Gray bring with them the fire they set inside of them years ago, only now their flame is more prevalent. Fined-tuned power chords, meticulously placed lead ornamentation, and drum buildups that you can't help but tap, or even jump around to. Combining their creativity with their fellow band mates from Future Leaders of the World, Machina comes on the scene strong and ready to show that their combined effort won't go unheard.

The songs take you on a journey into the band itself. Machina brings back what seemed to walk out of the rock scene when bands like My Chemical Romance were discovered. A mix of Alice in Chains' chord progressions, Chris Cornell's vocal styling, and the undeniable power of the hardest of Silverchair tunes.

Their feature song Trust shows two sides of Machina; A softer more vulnerable sound that may seem reminiscent of the softer side of Soundgarden, but just as the aforementioned band, don't let that fool you. They come in strong the instant you expect, and even crave it, giving lead vocalist Phil Taylor a chance to showcase not only his vocal range, but emotional as well. These days, so many bands didn't get the memo that "high screams" mean nothing without the emotional power fueling them. Phil did. Hell, he could've written the memo.

Their song Precious is the type that almost everyone can relate to. With lyrics such as "You can't accept me for who I am... All of my life, where have you been..." Showing heart and soul in the way that you thought only you inside could create. It's as though the band reached right inside of your heart. Giving Jack Wiese a better chance to tug at your, and his [heart]strings, with the precise placings of the minor notes alongside Phil's emotional cries. After hearing the bridge, I'd like to battle this guy at Guitar Hero. For those of you looking for the all-out hard rock sound, check out their tune Same Song. Fist-pump worthy, with just as much power throughout.

Bottom line, these members are like puzzle pieces. Through the years, working with other musicians, they may have fit enough to make it work, but it wasn't until these guys got together for Machina that the puzzle was completed. Each and every member compliments the others to create the perfect balance of rock, soul, emotion, and straight up power.

Machina is planning to begin touring soon, so anyone looking to hear some great true rock and have one hell of a time, be sure to check out their website and MySpace Profile to keep track, and maybe they'll be coming to a city near you soon!
